The Australian Commercial Radio Awards 2017 were a huge night for Radio Training Institute graduates, with 5 awards going home with RTI alumni!
Darcy Thomson picked up two awards: Best Achievement in Production (Country), and Best Station Produced Commercial – Single (Country) alongside colleague Ray Adams for their ad for Glenn Howell Optometrist. Darcy’s also moving up in the world – he’s moving back to Melbourne, and on Monday he starts as Content Coordinator at SCA’s PodcastOne. A big weekend!
Darcy told us: “I love what I do, and to get recognised for it is a real honour. Hopefully I haven’t hit my peak and it’s not all down hill from here! I’m really excited about the new gig, and thanks to ACE Radio and RTI for giving me all the opportunities that they have.”
Ryan Jon, as part of Ryan & Tanya on Canberra’s Hit 104.7, picked up a well-deserved award for Best Documentary (Non-Metro) for Braden’s Story.
RTI graduate Kate Meade is one half of The Morning Rush with Jon and Kate, and is now the winner of an ACRA for the show, with The Morning Rush taking home Best Networked Program (Country).
Michael Billings, and his co-host Amber Wheatland, took home Best On-Air Team (Country) for Amber and Billows on Sunraysia’s Hit 99.5. He was even kind enough to thank RTI and our General Manager Heidi Everett in his acceptance speech!
A huge congratulations must also go to RTI lecturer Andy Wells, for his ACRA for Best Music Special (Syndication/Production Company) for Something So Strong: Celebrating 30 Years of Crowded House, syndicated through Andy Wells Media.
RTI would like to congratulate our 2017 ACRAs winners and nominees – all so well deserved!
If you want an award-winning career in radio, RTI can give you the skills you need for success.
